Dear West Augusta Guard Members,

Thank you so much for your donation of $50.00 from the proceeds of your Bake Goods Sale on February 22, 2009 to the Augusta County Historical Society.  Your generous gift will help the society to continue the vital work of preserving Augusta County's past for future generations.

Our archival volunteers have spent hours working on preparing the collections in our new home in the R. R. Smith Center for History and Art.  It is our goal that our holdings are properly maintained and user friendly for all the public that will visit the new facility.  The society hopes to add to our programmatic offerings in the future, especially educational programs for children of all ages.  It is never too early to begin appreciating the history of Augusta County.  Your donation will help us to achieve these goals.

Again, on behalf of the board of the Augusta County Historical Society, thank you for helping your society preserve the past as we plan for the future.

Sincerely,

Katharine L. Brown

President, Augusta County Historical Society

A letter from a Plumb House spectator.

March 7, 2009

Just a thank you note to you and the West Augusta Guard, 5th Virginia Infantry Co L.

Your participation in the Battle of Waynesboro commemoration today really helped history come alive.

I enjoyed the ceremony at the cemetery as well as the demonstrations at the Plumb House.

This was my first visit to a battlefield since moving to Virginia and now Rebecca (my yellow labrador) and I will start visiting historic sites all around Virginia.

Thank you and your comrades in arms for whetting my appetite for studying the historic places of my new home state.
